The power adaptor that comes with each set of Tru-Tone Mini Lites can power up to 5 end-to end connected sets. If you would like to use your own larger capacity 24V DC power supply, animation controller or dimmer, you can use our bare leads threaded connector to do so.
A higher rated power supply will allow for more end-to-end connections of Tru-Tone Mini Lites, but please keep in mind the inherent issue of voltage drop with DC power; the more sets connected end-to-end, the more diminished brightness from the first to last light will be increasingly noticeable. We don't recommend more than 7 end-to-end sets, even with a third party DC-power supply as a result.
If more than 5 sets (500 lights) are needed for a single installation, we recommend running a separate 120V line to each grouping of up to 5 sets. In a tree, this can be accomplished relatively easily with a short, lightweight extension cord run "halfway" up the tree trunk, or with one of these specialty "christmas tree" extension cords.
With basic wiring skills, you can also use our Bare Leads Connector to add an in-line low voltage dimmer without cutting into your Tru-Tone Mini Lite String. Standard PWM dimmers are inexpensive and work but will introduce a degree of flicker as they dim. For a superior, flicker-free dimming experience at a full range of dimming, we recommend this more costly, but superior third-party dimmer.
