Can I use Mini Lites outside of the US?

Absolutely! While our Mini Lites are currently only natively compatible with the 120V AC North American electrical standard, if you're located elsewhere in the world and would like to use our Mini Lites, you actually have a few options as far as how you can go about powering them.

Assuming you're located in a country with a 230V AC electrical standard, the standard course of action would be to use a voltage step-down converter to convert that 230V AC power to the required 120V AC needed by the power supply included with our Mini Lites.

However, because the Mini Lites themselves are powered by 24V DC, the included "power supply" is actually just a small, removable transformer that uses an industry standardized 2-pin screw connector for DC operation of LEDs.

The includes power supply has a US plug on it, but because it's removable, you can instead source one for your country's wall plug style and electrical standard that's compatible with our Mini Lites in order to avoid needing to daisy chain transformers.

For example, a few Tru-Tone customers in the UK have reportedly had success with this style of power adapter (shown below). It has a 230V AC UK plug on one end and the standard 2-pin screw connector on the other, and converts the AC power to the required 24V DC that our Mini Lites use. And because these power supplies are are capable of powering many more than 100 LEDs, you should be able to connect up to 5 sets of our Mini Lites end-to-end, the same as our included US power supply.

When sourcing one of these third-party power adapters, the important details to verify before using with your Tru-Tone Mini Lites are 1) that the adapter's plug style and input power (such as 230V AC) match your country's plug style; 2) that the output power is precisely 24V DC; and 3) that the adapter's power rating is at least 12W.

We obviously hope to offer a more native solution to international customers some day soon, rather than you needing to source and find compatible power supplies yourself, but hopefully this helps in the interim!
