Many of our bulbs use traditional glass enclosures just like those used on bulbs of yesteryear which helps give them that authentic, vintage appearance. It is an inherently fragile material, though, so they do need to be handled a bit more gingerly than other, modern holiday lights.
Knowing glass may not be appropriate for every situation, though, we introduced our Dura-Bulb line, which is made from a high quality polycarbonate instead of glass. These are shatterproof as a result, and a great option for use around young kids and pets.
Dura-Bulbs are currently only offered in C9 style, but plan to launch C7 versions by mid-2026.
