Yes! We are always working to improve the fidelity and colorfastness of our colors, and for some colors, making minor adjustments to the shade based on feedback and our own internal review has been necessary. We try to be as transparent as possible about changes to any colors you may know and love to set expectations if you need to stock up at a later date!
The most significant changes have been made to the following colors:
Jeweltone Blue: This color shifted to a deeper, cobalt color in 2022, but returned to the original, slightly warmer blue from previous years in 2023.
Classicolor Purple: We had some difficulty getting this color exactly where we wanted it. When introduced in 2022, it was lighter and slightly more pink than we wanted when illuminated. This batch was later renamed "Light Purple."
In 2023, we achieved a deeper, more saturated color but this one was too dark and still more magenta-leaning than we wanted. This batch was renamed "Dark Purple" – but was also necessarily introduced in our original Mod Mix.
In 2024, we finally achieved our ideal Classicolor Purple – more of a blue-leaning purple that stands nicely alongside our other Classicolor options when illuminated. This is now our "standard" Classicolor Purple and is the Purple now included in our Mod Mix.
You can purchase what remains of our "Light Purple" (2022) and "Dark Purple" (2023) on our Last Chance page.
Classicolor Teal: This color changed slightly with our new manufacturer in 2023, becoming a little darker and more saturated. This difference was most apparent with C9 bulbs so we have given the original C9 bulbs the designation of "Light Teal." From 2023 onward, the updated hue is our only teal.
Jeweltone Magenta: While a subtle shift, we're in the process of migrating all magenta Jeweltone bulbs to a slightly more pink, less red hue. In many installations you may be unlikely to notice the difference, but if it is important to you that you receive the older formula of magenta bulbs, please reply to your order confirmation email with this request and we may be able to honor it if we still have supply of "old" Magenta on hand, but as of the 2025 season, all C7 and C9 bulbs should be "new" Magenta.
If you find that you have mixed magenta bulbs, a quick and effective trick to make it less obvious is to alternate their placement throughout your installation.
When we make color adjustments we always update the images on the website to accurately reflect the current color, within the limitations of a digital image, of course.
In addition to our intentional changes, minor shifts can occur in a color formula from batch to batch. All of these subtle shifts are the same as would happen with vintage incandescent Christmas bulbs, and we believe minor, negligible differences between bulbs only contribute to their retro charm.
We always welcome your feedback on colors and have a few new ones in the works!
