Many of our bulbs use traditional glass enclosures just like those used on bulbs of yesteryear which helps give them that authentic, vintage appearance. It is an inherently fragile material, though, so they do need to be handled a bit more gingerly than other, modern holiday lights.
Knowing glass may not be appropriate for every situation, though, we introduced our Dura-Bulb line, which is made from a high quality polycarbonate instead of glass. These are shatterproof as a result, and a great option for use around young kids and pets.
Dura-Bulbs are now available in all of our bulb sizes (C7, C9, and S14) and styles: Classicolor, Jeweltone, and Candleglow.
Please note, however, that our opaque C7 Classicolor Dura-Bulbs are still in development.
